MACLEA FALL CONFERENCE AGENDA

November 8, 2017

Ferris State University

1201 S. State Street, Big Rapids, Michigan, USA 49307

Exact location: TBD

Current Presentations:

1) Robocop or Aristotle: Which is Your Officer's Ethical Role Model?

Synopsis: This presentation is intended to be a workout for the mind. Rather than go through several PowerPoint slides on what ethics is, this presentation will put forward some of the most famous thought-provoking ethical dilemmas that have challenged some of the greatest of philosophers of our time and ask participants to provide their take on a solution. We will then discuss how certain figures, such as Robocop and Aristotle, would likely resolve these very dilemmas. By analyzing ethics in this format, it is hoped an understanding of why officers make good or bad ethical decisions can be better understood.

2) Mara from the FBI Campus Liaison Program

A. What is a Guardian? (aka - why do we keep bugging you for information?). We could talk about what the Guardian is and why and when they are opened; what happens to the information and why we can sometimes not share what we learned!

B. DT groups on Campus (we are hoping HQ or our DT squad can put together something to discuss Charlottesville)

3) Brett NaumcheffPolicy Creation and Liability in Policing

We are also in discussion with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officials for a presentation on the impacts ICE could have on our campuses.
